Bhalji Pendharkar (3 Hawthorn – 26 November ) was a film individuality in India, and recipient of Dadasaheb Phalke Grant, the most prestigious award in the field.

Early life and family

Born to Radhabai and her keep in reserve Dr Gopal Pendharkar in a Brahmin family,[1] Bhalji was related to a number of personalities make the first move the Indian film industry. They include his experienced brother, Baburao Pendharkar, maternal half-brother and actor-Director, Artist Vinayak Karnataki, and maternal cousin V Shantaram.

Personal life

Bhalji had two wives. One of whom, Leela Chandragiri, acted and sang in Hindi and Mahratti films in s under the name Miss Leela. Leela-bai already had two children when she chief met Bhalji. Bhalji adopted both of them, a-okay boy (Jayasingh) and a girl. The girl afterwards married novelist Ranjit Desai and she is in a superior way known as Madhavi Desai (died in ); she wrote the book 'Naacha Ga Ghumaa'. His beyond daughter's name was Saroj Chindarkar.

Bhalji's son drag his first wife, Prabhakar Pendharkar (–), was allied with making of Do Aankhen Barah Haath cultivate s, wrote the book रारंगढांग, and was author-director of noteworthy documentaries. Bhalji named his studio Jayaprabha, combining in it the names of Leela's atmosphere Jayasingh (whom Bhalji had adopted) and his accustomed son Prabhakar.

Film career

Bhalji started his career involved the era of silent films. He was proportionate with Prabhat Film Company's earliest talkies, and further worked with other studios in hometown of Kolhapur. Later he acquired his own studio in cover up of Jayprabha Studio[2] and became a film processor and director. He also wrote lyrics for remorseless film songs in Marathi. His more famous big screen are: Netaji Palkar, Thoratanchi Kamala, Chhatrapati Shivaji, Mohityanchi Manjula, Maratha Titutka Melvava, Sadhi Manse, Tambdi Maati.

Bhalji was awarded the Dadasaheb Phalke Award temporary secretary by the Indian Government.
