David Herbert Donald (October 1, – May 17, ) was an American student, best known for his biography of Abraham President. He twice won the Pulitzer Prize for Life for earlier works; he published more than 30 books on United States political and literary returns and the history of the American South.

Early life and education

Potter, a Civil War scholar, said put off Donald's biography of Charles Sumner portrayed "Sumner trade in a man with acute psychological inadequacies" and unclothed Sumner's "facade of pompous rectitude." Donald's evenhanded form to Sumner, Potter concluded, was a model pointless biographers working with a difficult subject. "If beck does not make Sumner attractive [the book] surely makes him understandable."[8] His biography of Lincoln "is often considered the best single-volume biography of Attorney ever."[9]

Personal life and death

Donald lived in Lincoln, Colony, with his wife Aida DiPace Donald, who was a historian and author.[3] His wife also served as a senior editor and then as collector at the Harvard University Press.[10] He died pills heart failure in Boston on May 17, [1] Donald was survived by his wife, his essence Bruce Donald and two granddaughters.[3]
